What Are Affirmations?
So, what exactly are affirmations?
Simply put, affirmations are positive words and phrases that we say (and repeat!) to ourselves. They are especially helpful if we repeat them on a daily basis!
Why does this matter?
Maybe you are thinking of the scene in the movie Evan Almighty where Evan is standing in front of his mirror and telling himself how wonderful he is. Ha!
Still, there is evidence that repeating daily positive affirmations to yourself actually does make a difference in effecting the way you think and feel! Here is one study that was done on this subject.
Why Are Affirmations Important for Moms?
Being a mother is very often a demanding and thankless job.
Taking care of small, needy humans is a challenging. Moms can often feel stressed out, exhausted, and like they are not good enough.
Affirmations can help you, as a mom, to:
- protect your emotional health
- improve confidence and self-esteem
- combat negative thoughts
- foster compassion for yourself
- provide or boost motivation
- decrease stress levels
- improve your overall wellbeing
What you say to yourself makes a BIG difference!
You will believe what you feed your mind (If you feed it lies, you will eventually believe the lies!)
All moms struggle with something, because no one has a perfect life.

I used mom affirmations constantly when I was going through a divorce and my life felt like a gigantic mess. I can’t tell you how much they helped!

How Do Affirmations Work?
Like the Little Engine That Could (I think I can, I think I can!), what we think about ourselves, often proves true in our lives. In other words, we can change our mindset to believe what we tell ourselves.
If we constantly say to ourselves, things like…
I am failure.
I will never be a good mom.
…then this can cloud our overall mood and effect the work we do.
What we think, we believe, and as we believe, so we live.
Our thoughts become our reality.
Use daily positive affirmations to help change your perspective of yourself and your motherhood.
When Should You Use Affirmations for Moms?
The great thing about affirmations is that you can use them anytime and anywhere!
You can write down a few and post them throughout your home and other places and repeat them:
- in front of the mirror while getting ready
- during time to yourself
- all throughout the day – anytime of day!
- in the car before you drive
- while brushing your teeth at night
You can use preprinted cards like these to stick up around your home or you can write your own.
The key is to repeat them over and over, even if you don’t believe them.
I used similar cards when I was going through a divorce and becoming a new single mom (and everything felt extremely hard).
I picked several affirmations that I found uplifting and helpful and wrote them down and posted them around my home.
Choose several that speak to you and write them down.
I used to say very simple ones like, I’m going to be ok – even when I didn’t feel like I actually would be ok.
Or, I’m going to keep going forward and not give up – even when I did feel like giving up.
Tips for Success
Using daily affirmations for moms is so easy and basically effortless, but here are a few things to remember in order to be the most successful.
Be sure to keep affirmations:
- positive (I am a good mom instead of I’m not a bad mom or I can be calm instead of I don’t yell.)
- short (makes them easy to repeat and remember)
- in the present tense
- strong
- realistic and believable (although what we tell ourselves really does have an effect. When I was getting divorced, I repeated affirmations to myself and was completely unconvinced they were believable and they still helped and now I believe them.)
